Eating Vitamin C Daily for Beauty

We Need Vitamin C for Collagen Production

Did you know that ingested vitamin C is absolutely essential to your body’s production of collagen? Collagen is not only a major part of your body’s scaffolding, it is also 70-80% of your skin. Strength and elasticity are two delightful qualities our skin should possess and that means healthy collagen production. Collagen is also a must for shiny hair and strong nails and makes for a happy gut. Optimal collagen creation enabled by indispensable vitamin C is where it’s at.

Vitamin C And Body Health

Your body also requires vitamin C to form and repair such things as blood vessels, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones.

Vitamin C prevents damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules formed by exposure to everyday sources such as UV radiation, pollution, blue screen light, and cigarette smoke. If left unchecked, they can damage the very structure of our cells (and even DNA) and are the major cause of premature aging. Free radicals are counteracted by antioxidants. Antioxidants grab onto free radicals before they can do damage, acting as natural “off” switches. Vitamin C is the primary antioxidant in human skin. It’s what your skin needs to have at hand to battle free radicals.

As if all these epic benefits were not enough, vitamin C is anti-pigmentary, meaning it prevents excessive pigmentation leading to dark spots. It also supports the production of lipids which create the protective moisture barrier on the skin’s surface, protecting your skin from dryness.

What Foods to Eat for Daily Vitamin C Requirements

Your body cannot produce or store water-soluble vitamin C. It must be eaten daily. You can garner sufficient vitamin C through conscious eating habits. Eating the rainbow is always a great practice. Broccoli, oranges, kale, kiwis, brussel sprouts, yellow bell peppers, lemons, limes, parsley, strawberries. All these common fruits and vegetables contain ample amounts of vitamin C.

Glow Beauty Fuel bars contain 90mg of vitamin C , so by eating one bar a day you don’t have to think about having enough vitamin C to optimize your body’s collagen production or to enjoy vitamin C’s other staggering beauty benefits.(link to one of the bars or Variety Pack)

Does Vitamin C in Topical Skincare Products Work?

We believe in using all the tools available to keep your skin looking its best. Skincare products with vitamin C can be a powerful ingredient in keeping your skin glowing and healthy.  It can help in smoothing wrinkles, lightening dark spots, protecting against sun damage (but nothing takes the place of a UVA/UVB sunscreen) and boosting collagen production.  So, we are not giving up our skincare. But we also believe that topical products alone are not enough to keep our skin, hair and nails in optimum shape– that beauty comes from within. We also know that the many health benefits of eating vitamin C are key not only to our beauty, but also our overall health. So, we recommend combining both methods- nurturing the inside via diet and treating the outside with topical products.
